It took several sessions for babies to discover, as they made a few sporadic kicks, that an organized kickup pattern would shift them from irregular bouncing to a sustained pattern of oscillation. Over the trial sessions, the babies discovered the task constraints imposed by the harness and the spring and by their own powers of pushing, and how it felt to reach a more economical, organized pattern of bounce that they could control.
